Each spring and early summer, North Texas comes alive with color although bloom timing can vary from year to year depending on weather and rainfall. As families begin planning their spring and summer photo sessions, these flower-filled locations offer some of the most beautiful, natural backdrops in the Dallas–Fort Worth area
As a DFW family photographer, I’ve curated my favorite flower-filled family photo locations—from wildflower meadows in Richardson to charming sunflower farms just outside the city. These spots offer the perfect blend of natural beauty and peaceful settings for heartfelt, light-filled portraits.
Richardson Wildflowers at Crowley Park (Richardson, TX)

For families looking for wildflower family photo sessions in Dallas, Crowley Park in Richardson is a beloved local spot. Late April through May is its peak season, when fields of vibrant blooms create a beautiful, laid-back setting. This year’s wildflowers weren’t as full as in years past, but the patches that did bloom were perfect for capturing those sentimental family moments.
Address: 2700 N Spring Dr, Richardson, TX 75082
Pro Tip: Weekday evenings are best to avoid crowds and ensure a relaxed photo experience.
Arbor Hills Nature Preserve (Plano, TX)
For those seeking family photo locations in Plano, TX, Arbor Hills Nature Preserve is a favorite. While not strictly a flower field, its open meadows, wildflowers, and scenic overlooks provide a soft, organic backdrop that feels both wild and intimate—especially during golden hour.
Address: 6701 W Parker Rd, Plano, TX 75093
Dallas Arboretum and Botanical Garden

When it comes to Dallas Arboretum family photos, this iconic spot is hard to beat. With curated gardens, seasonal flowers, and charming walking paths, it offers a polished yet dreamy setting for family portraits in Dallas.
Address: 8525 Garland Rd, Dallas, TX 75218
Note: Professional photography permits are only required here if use of any equipment beyond your camera. Golden hour sessions may be limited due to operating hours.
Dallas Rose Gardens

If you love a romantic garden look for your Dallas family photography session, Dallas rose gardens (both within the Arboretum and in public parks) are a beautiful option during late spring and early summer. Rows of blooming roses add a colorful, classic touch to your portraits.
The Little Sunflower Farm (Trenton, TX)

Sunflowers bring a joyful, sun-drenched touch to summer family photos. The Little Sunflower Farm is a charming family-owned farm that opens their property to the public for a few weeks during the summer. Their land is perfect for playful and sentimental family portraits. Sunflowers typically bloom in June and July, making this one of the best sunflower family photo locations near Dallas.

Western Belle Farm (West, TX)
Located just an hour south of Dallas-Fort Worth, Western Belle Farm in West, TX is a hidden gem for sunflower family photos and zinnia fields in North Texas. Their annual Sunflower Festival typically runs from May to June and features over five acres of vibrant sunflowers and colorful zinnias—perfect for families seeking a joyful, floral-filled photo backdrop. The farm also offers Sunflower Sunset Sessions, giving families exclusive access to the flower fields during golden hour for soft, glowing portraits. Alongside the blooms, visitors can enjoy kid-friendly activities, live music on select weekends, and the chance to pick their own flowers to take home.

Crepe Myrtles Across North Texas

Crepe Myrtles are a Texas summer signature, bursting into vibrant pinks, purples, and whites across neighborhoods and parks from late June through August. While I have a personal favorite hidden gem for these near McKinney, they can be found throughout North Texas family photo locations, perfect for spontaneous, light-filled sessions.
Texas Tulips

Texas Tulips offers a vibrant, photo-worthy backdrop each spring, with rows of colorful tulips that families can enjoy while strolling the farm. One of the unique perks of this location is that visitors can purchase tulips as they explore—but there are a few important things to keep in mind when planning your visit.
Check the weather before you go. I don’t recommend visiting if it has rained within 24 hours of your planned date, as the grounds can become very muddy. On one visit, I even witnessed a playful tumble into a puddle—fun for the child, not so much for dad. Windy days can also make the experience less enjoyable, with loose dirt easily blowing into your eyes.
Avoid peak days when possible. Weekends tend to be the busiest, and tickets often sell out shortly after opening. On high-traffic days, lines are long, parking fills quickly, and the aisles can feel crowded with families and groups of friends.
Timing matters. If you wait too far into the season, you may miss the best blooms altogether. Tulip season is short, and visiting at peak bloom makes all the difference.
Texas Tulips is reopening around mid/end Feb 2026 through late March/early April.
Address: 10656 FM2931, Pilot Point, TX 76258
Note: $25 Photography day passes are available plus $6 per client. Regular entry is $7 per person.
