As the winter months approach, you might be feeling a little overwhelmed at the thought of planning your family photo session. I understand that finding the perfect wardrobe can be a daunting task. Especially when transitioning out of warmer months into those cold winter days. Pulling together timeless yet comfortable winter family outfits isn’t as hard as you may think. From cozy layered looks to smart neutrals, below I’ve put together some great tips and outfit ideas that will ensure you look amazing in your photos.
Choosing Cool-Toned Neutrals in Family Photo Outfits
Neutrals are the perfect choice for any type of photo session because they create a timeless look and feel that will never go out of style. Lighter neutrals like cream and khaki can help to brighten up a dark winter day. While soft muted hues of blue, pink, grays, and purple are nice complements to the colors found in nature during the winter season. When it comes to styling these colors together in an outfit, your options are virtually limitless! Plus, neutrals pair well with almost any other color. So if you want to add a touch of color to your wardrobe, neutrals provide the perfect base to do that.
Incorporating Prints and Textures
When it comes to neutrals, think about prints and textures as well as colors. A wool coat over a silk dress can create a beautiful contrast in your winter family outfits. While a printed wardrobe piece such as a dress, blouse, or shirt to the mix adds a nice visual interest. Keep prints at a minimum. Reserve one print for one person of the family while everyone else are dressed in solids.

If you’re having a hard time deciding on a color palette to wear for your photo session, look towards nature. Choosing neutral colors that complement the backdrop of winter is the way to go. Not only will you all look incredible but it will deliver a beautiful, timelessness to your images.
